For the Prince of Sparta
I know that Donald Rumsfeld is trying to recreate the ancient military of old Sparta(which was composed almost completely of infintry) but forget it.
I do agree with a highly mobile military but we cannot be without our proven heavy divisions. Primarily the 3rd and 4th. Also I have a hard time imagining us without the 3rd armord with a sister armored division.
Mothball as many Abrams as you see fit but for the time being you may want to keep at least 4 divisions in the Army that are experts in armored warefare.
Infantry. I love the 10th mountain, 101st, 82nd, Greenberet, Rangers, 24th mechanized, a sister mech division, a couple of air cav units not including the 82nd.
If you want some lighter vehicles----wheels. I also think you ought to keep that 120 smooth bore on it.
The philosopyhy should be the heaviest possible firepower always. Remember that our future battles may well mean that we are heavily outnumbered so we must be able to fight from as far away from them as possible and infantry are up close and personal. Oh yes there will be some more. Hopefully not these crappy brushfire wars or the ones just above them. North Korea still needs to be held at bay and no telling if some really crazed Dick-tator will get a hold of them and also they may be full of bluster and bluff but never make policy as if they were. They should be treated as if they were dead serious.
They would take advantage if they should percieve us not prepared to stamp them out.
It is my belief no matter what the other nutso's say that we could remove ourselves from Europe. They don't need us anymore and it gets into the imperialistic for us to stay.
The two primary theaters will be the Middle East and Korea. Korea may be resolved peacefully which would leave only the middle east. Isreal will be our most likely point of contact.
